2009
2009 US sales total, the best year ever with a record breaking 216,652.
Thats up 15% for the year for a 2.1% of the US market. The next best year was 2006 with 200,703, and 2009 beat it by 15,949 cars (+8%).

The redesigned 2010 Outback was a big seller and supply of popular models was tight. The Forester redesigned in 09 continued to sell well. The Impreza was slightly off, the 2.5i Premium and WRX Premium was a good seller, STI was so-so. The Tribeca was a slow seller with a new model lineup for 2010 but no real changes to excite sales.

Outback 55,356 app +25% over 2008,
Legacy 30,974 app +37%,
Forester 77,781 app +28%,
Impreza 46,611 app -11%,

2010
2010 calendar year totals: 263,820 a new record,  up 47,168 cars (+ 22%) over the previous record of 216,652 set just last year 2009.
Subaru now has 2.3% of the US market.
Total Sales By Model in 2010 (compared to 2009):  Outback 93,148 (+68%) , Forester 85,080 (+9%), Impreza total incl WRX STI 44,395 (-5%) (Impreza 36072, WRX/STI 8323),  Legacy 38,725 +25%, Tribeca 2472 (-58%)

Subaru is on a huge sales roll. Even used cars are really strong in the market, selling quickly at market proices.
The Outback and Forerster continue as the volume models,  Legacy gained new fans but perhaps not as many as it deserves. WRX and STI got really good upgrades and were very popular but supply was tight. Tribeca sales are lackluster.

2011
2011 was the year of the terrible March earthquake and following tsunami in Japan that caused the Fukashima nuclear plant meltdown. As a result of these disasters, car and part production was seriously impacted- factories world-wide were shut down for weeks. 2012 models were pushed back 3 months and inventory was dramatically low through the summer.
The big change for the year was the new 2012 Impreza due late August- it started to arrive early December though a few were around in mid November (the very first 2012 Impreza was delivered to Cascade Subaru in Wenatchee).
Given all the trouble, including a major brake master cylinder recall in late November, its a testament to Subaru customer loyalty that the company had their best year ever.

2011 sales total: 266,989. A new record, a slim but very important 1.20% increase over the previous record of 263,820 set in 2010.

> Outback--  Outback is #1 seller for the year, its SoA's volume leader for 2011 with 104,405, up 12.09% from 93,148 in 2010
> Forester- Total Foresters sold for 2011 was 76,196, down 10.44% from 85,080 in 2010. The Forester is due for a redesign and a fuel economy increase with a CVT, and perhaps even hybrid technology.
> Impreza- For the 2011 year, Impreza was down to 27,391 from 36,072 in 2010. That's a drop of 24.07% which isn't surprising given the successful 2011 model closeout followed by the 2012 model earthquake/tsunami and later recall delays. There were almost no Imprezas for sale for 2 1/.2 months, October, November, through mid December.
> WRX, STI- 2011 WRX STI total 13805, up a surprising 65.87% from 8323 in 2010. There is no individual model count for WRX  or STI.
> Legacy- 2011 Legacy total was 42,401, up 9.49% from 38,725 in 2010.
> Tribeca-  2011 Tribeca's total was 2791 for the year, +12.90% from 2472 in 2010. Will there be a 2013 Tribeca?

2012
Subaru is #12 brand in the US for calendar year 2012
2012 was the year Subaru came out with two new models- the all new BRZ and the Crosstrek.
The BRZ is a 2+2 sports couple co-designed and marketed with Scion. The Scion is the FR-S and is generally more available. This is a rear wheel drive, 2 door (yes, the first rear wheel drive Subaru since the early 1970s). Availability of the BRZ is expected to be tight, with only 7000 for the 2013 model run
The all new XV Crosstrek with a variant of the popular Impreza line. Subaru added ground clearance and body cladding and the car was an immediate hit. What Subaru did to the Impreza 5 door to create the Crosstrek is almost exactly what they did to the 1996 Legacy to create the 1996 Outback- add clearance, body cladding and a viola- create a new model.
The 2013 Outback and Legacy got a mechanical updating with a new 2.5i engine (first used the 2011 Forester) with a timing belt, an upgraded 2nd generation CVT, brake override system, and improved handling and suspension.
This is the last year for the current Forester- the 2014 model will be all new, due March 2013.

Sales total for calendar year 2012 - 336,441.
Thats up 26% over 266,989 for all of 2011.  Even with some models in tight supply, like the Impreza and its new Crosstrek cousin, and the low production BRZ, Subaru exceeded their own sales predictions that just 12 months ago seemed just a more dream than reality
The Outback is the star, selling 117,553 for year.  Forester is #2 with 76,347, and Impreza is #3 with 68,175, and they're almost tied if the Impreza and its sibling Crosstrek are combined, with 75,571 total.
The Tribeca is still with us despite on-going rumors regarding its imminent demise, though its on life support with only 2075 for the entire year.  Thats less than the high dollar, glamorous Bentley.
The question will be if Subaru can maintain the growth. With its first hybrid and a redesigned Forester due in 2013, its possible. First they'll have to solve the inventory problems that have left customers waiting months and months for some models. And with growth, can they maintain the quality- note the recent recall of vehicles with optional puddle lights.
> Here are the 2012 calendar year totals by model
Outback 117,553 in 2012, up 12.6% over 104,405 in 2011
Forester 76,347 in 2012, up .2% over 76,196 in 2011
Legacy 47,127 in 2012, up 11.2% over 42401 in 2011
Impreza 68,175 in 2012, up 148.9% over 27391 in 2011
