About the Forester

The basics.. The Subaru Forester is an all-wheel-drive car based SUV.
Introduced in 1998, it shares wheelbase and dashboard with the Subaru Impreza
Only one engine, the 2.5L is available

Size and price wise it fits between the smaller Impreza and the larger Legacy and is popular with commuter, campers and small families. People appreciate the practicality, looks, strong motor, smooth ride and excellent handling.

The Forester has done very well in Insurance Institute crash tests and various consumer magazine ratings, usually earning top spots and recommended ratings.

The 1999 model body was stiffened and strengthened and did very well in crash tests.
The 2001 model was introduced early, in February 2000. The front end, rear end, dashboard, lower body cladding was all mildly redesigned, with new colors, cloth, and the introduction of a new top of the line S Premium model including side air-bags and a factory sunroof
The 2002 model S Premium is available March 01,  with factory leather only +$700! All models get daytime running lights, dual mode rear wiper, the rear cargo cover is standard now, and S model lower accent is now Graystone Metallic. Destination charge and base price increased $30, but again, the rear cargo cover (was $122) is now standard so they actually went down in price a bit.

A brief note on availability and ordering:

Usually a dealer can supply a model, if not from their own stock, then by trading with another local dealer.
Your dealer will search for the correct model and then contact the other dealer and if the  vehicle is still available then the vehicle will be driven in from the other location. This can take place within days.
Or you can wait for a vehicle your dealer already has coming into their own inventory.

If a vehicle is freshly ordered Subaru will give an expected delivery date but this is not an exact date. Usually a vehicle arrives at a dealer within 6-8 weeks, but delays can, and sometimes do happen at any point along the assembly and shipping process, so be patient. The dealer wants you get your car as quickly as you do!
