About the Forester

The basics.. The Subaru Forester is an all-wheel-drive SUV.
Introduced in 1998, it shares wheelbase and dashboard with the Subaru Impreza,
It shares the larger engine, powertrain and heavy duty front brake system with the Legacy Outback.

It has been a very well received vehicle. Size and price wise it fits between the smaller Impreza and the larger Legacy and is popular with commuter, campers and small families. People appreciate the practicality, looks, strong motor, smooth ride and excellent handling.

The Forester has done very well in Insurance Institute crash tests and various consumer magazine ratings, usually earning top spots and recommended ratings.

The 1999 model was stiffened and strengthened and did very well in crash tests.
The 2001 model was introduced early, in February 2000. The front end, rear end, dashboard, lower body cladding was all mildly redesigned, with new colors, cloth, and the introduction of a new top of the line S Premium model including side air-bags and a factory sunroof

Forester meets federal safety standards for Passenger Vehicles.
