Why do I want all wheel
drive? I live in a dry warm climate.
All wheel drive is a full
time traction system that is effective on dry as well as slick roads and
helps maintain stability and control under most conditions.
It is a benefit in all driving
conditions but of course especially any area where there is snow or rain
including the Northwest, Northeast, Midwest.
The BRZ is Subaru's only rear wheel drive car. It has a Limited slip rear
axle. Introduced in 2012, it's built by Subaru but was was co-designed
by Toyota and is also sold in the US as the Scion FR-S
Is there an CUV or SUV?
from small to large: Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Tribeca.
Is there a mini-van?
No.
But the Tribeca is a 5 +2 passenger
Is there a Hybrid
Yes, Subaru's first hybrid, the 2014 Crosstrek Hybrid and Hybrid Touring is coming Fall 2013.
Is there a Diesel
Yes
but it is not available in the US.
A diesel with a CVT is now available in Australia starting March 2013. This would be the model if one were to come to the US but nothing has been announced.
Manual
transmissions models have been available in other countries for years now.
The potential US market
for a Subaru diesel is small and Subaru is working on other technologies.
Few diesels actually do
well in the US. A gallon of diesel is frequently more expensive than a
gallon of gas.
Diesel in the US isn't as
refined as other parts of the world and the newer, cleaner burning and
quieter diesel engines don't run our stuff.
Diesel engines cost a lot
to make and the price of the car would be high.
Subaru is partnered with
Toyota, the hybrid leader, and they don't do diesel here either.
