2/25/09 New accessory SPT Turbo Boost Gauge for all 2008-2009 Impreza WRX, 2.5GT and STIs (and 09 Forester turbo). The Turbo Boost Gauge displays engine vacuum as inHG and PSI. The dial is red lit when the car is on, matching the WRX and STI dash lighting. Available as a stand alone option or part of a new option package which includes the SPT Turbo Boost Gauge, short shifter and STI leather and aluminum shift knob.

2/23/09 STI's Cat-Back Exhaust System delayed the cat-back exhaust for the 2008 - 2009 STI is now expected May-June 09. (WRX exhuast is already available, and worth getting)

2/2/09 Optional roof rack Carrier Base Kit no longer factory installed -  it's a dealer part only, on with cars arriving starting late February. The 2009 Impreza Carrier Base Kit will only be available from dealer's parts dept. It can no longer be factory ordered but is available from dealers, part # E3610FG500, list price $229.95

1/27/09 New accessories  Chrome Sport Grill for all 09/08 Impreza available installed or as a part (see option list). STI Coil Springs for 09/08 STIs stiffen ride and lower height by 10mm

11/19/08 Update: iPod interface recharge function doesn't work with new Nano 4th generation and iPod Touch 2nd generation. Other functions still work but they don't recharge. Subaru is working on a new version of the interface.

11/10 STI rebate- the STI gets unprecendented 0%X63 months plus dealer volume bonus cash $0-2500-3500-5000! 2008 model only, through 1/2/09.
The 0% interest alone on a $33000 finance balance (for example) for 63 months is almost $4000 saving! Plus the dealer bonus cash (if passed along by the dealer).

8/26 Prices and final WRX and 2.5GT specs announced. The 2009 WRX $645 more than 08, 2.5GT is $455 lower. No changes announced yet for the 09 STI.

7/31 New 2009 WRX details announced. It's official, and the first 09 will be shown at the Los Angeles X Games July 31.
The 2009 WRX is expected September 2008.
The tweaked 09 WRX will have a larger turbo with more boost, and an easier flowing catalytic converter, making 265horsepower@6000rpm and 244 ft torque @4000rpm, up from 224hp@5200rpm, 226torque@2800rpm.
I'm calling it the 09 WRX.5 (half way to an STI).
The 09 WRX also gets revised suspension with larger stabilizer bars and stiffer springs, lower profile Summer Performance Tires Dunlop SP Sport 1 225/45R 17" tires with new gray 12 spoke alloys, standard mesh grill, upgraded tilt/telescoping leather wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, side moldings, and carbon black checkered cloth with red stitching.
The aero package is now standard on all models. The 4 door spoiler is now standard, the 5 door gets the STI rear spoiler.
The 09 Premium package picks up a new sunroof, plus fog lights, All Weather package with heated seats, defrosting mirrors and front wiper de-icer, aero package, upgraded stereo..
All new 2.5GT Premium 4 and 5 door models have the automatic 4speed Sportshift trans, active all wheel drive, all season tires, and the 224hp and 226ft torque like the 08s. 2 piece heated front bucket seats with adjustable active headrests (not Performance front buckets). No Aero package on the GT, it has , same cloth, same front grill and bright headlights as the on the Outback Sport. The 2.5GT doesn't get the STI spoiler.
A new 09 WRX to be given away at X Games 14, starts 7/31- 8/3, Los Angeles. Subaru is giving a WRX for the “Subaru Most Outstanding Athlete of the Games” grand prize. Subaru Rally drivers Travis Pastrana will be in car #199, Ken Block in #43. X Games 14, follow Subaru rally teams here.

April 11, 08 STI Coil Springs available for the 2008 Impreza 4 and 5 door models. The new pink STI Coil Springs are specifically tuned for street performance and are approximately 25 percent stiffer than the stock springs. Vehicle ride height is also reduced by about 10mm. The lower center of gravity and reduced body roll results in noticeably improved handling. While the STI Springs have been developed specifically for the 2008 WRX models, the springs also have application to all 2008 Impreza 4 and 5 door models, excluding the STI. The STI Coil Springs are covered under the 3-Year, 36,000 mile Genuine Subaru Accessory Parts Warranty, and may be installed by the dealer.
April 7, 08  Subaru announced a stop sale on all of the 2008/2009 Subaru Impreza, Forester, Legacy and Outback vehicles equipped with a 2.5L Turbo Engine produced with the beginning chassis number and later as shown below "due to several reports of "Engine Knocking Noise” from other markets on vehicles produced after the production dates listed. Initial investigation confirms an internal wear issue on the failed units. In the interest of preventing any possibility of failures for our customers, we have chosen to isolate any potentially affected vehicles by ceasing sales of the potentially affected units until the root cause and correction can be identified. All the other displacement engines and the 2.5L Natural Aspirated Engine are excluded from this action".

For 2008, the Impreza line is completely re-designed and all new. Based on the Legacy platform it has a slightly longer weheelbase. Still made only in Japan. WRX TR model is replaced by the WRX, the WRX is replaced by the Premium, and the Premium with Sirius Satellite Radio/Navigation is a new model. Note that this Navigation does not cover Hawaii, Alaska.  Longer wheelbase with more seating room, all new body and dashboard. New and standard on all models: front, side, and new front and rear side curtain airbags, VDC (electronic stability control), keyless entry with laser cut Immobilizer key and ignition disabling alarm, telescoping steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, fold down rear seats now on sedan (and wagon of course). Off-black cloth is the only material available. Optional Navigation and Sirius Satellite Audio system. New optional Sport Grill, body colored.  No leather or sunroof is available. All 2008 models have Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Ignition keys are now laser cut.
STI prices and specs announced 11/15/07. The 2008 STI is only available as a wagon, there is no sedan available. Most other rally cars are wagons so this is no surprise. It is also based on the Legacy platform. The ride is smoother. Acceleration is strong but with less 'surge'. The intercooler spray has been dropped. There are 3 STI models: 1: with 5 spoke alloys; 2: with BBS forged alloys and fog lights, and 3: with BBS alloys, fog lights and Navigation/audio system. DCCD system has been upgraded with 3 automatic modes (normal, slick road, dry road), plus the manual settings. Off-black leather trim with gray Alcantara seating surfaces is the only material available. There is no sunroof or leather available.
November 6, 2006  SoA is sold out of 2007 STI Limiteds, all remaining cars are now at dealers.
Updated August 21 with 2007 prices and features. Cars expected in August. A few new colors. STI Limited is the same price as the STI! Price drop $300 on 2.5is. Other prices remain the same. 2.5i gets storage box instead of ashtray, new gray interior trim, Outback Sport SE gets iPod auxiliary plug instead of ashtray, MP3, Sirius radio (3 month free, after that a subscription is required), climate control, 240 watt CD changer, subwoofer/amp. WRX, STI get 120 watt CD changer, MP3, auxiliary input plug, Sirius radio pre-wired, leather wrapped steering wheel.
2007 STI Limited model, 800 to be produced, individually numbered, Satin White or Urban Gray, with painted silver 17" alloys (not BBS like on STI). A small rear trunk lip spoiler  and no roof vane spoiler, black painted brake calipers w/ white lettering. Other upgrades are leather heated seats, sunroof, fog lights, iPod plug, fog lights, upgraded carpeting, sound installation, darker metallic trim, auto dimming mirror/compass. STI gold or silver wheels are now color specific, see colors below
2006 arrive at dealers starting late July
New front end on all models. All models now have dual stage front airbags, new taillights, outside temperature gauge, air filtration, front seatback net, and front and side airbags. Models grow 2" to 175.8 from 173.8. WRX is available in 2 new models for a total of 3 models. New for 2005 is a base WRX TR (Tuner Ready) sedan and a WRX Limited sedan and wagon (replaces the previous Premium sedan), in addition to the standard WRX sedan and wagon. The WRX with automatic transmission is available in Limited only.
All WRXs get new larger 2.5L engine with 230hp and Active Valves, 17" 7spoke alloys, engine immobilizer key, 4 piston front, 2 piston rear brakes with red painted calipers, Body colored side ground effects, leather steering wheel... New for 2006 WRX Limited package finally available on sedan and wagon, includes leather (a first on the WRX), sunroof, all weather package and more.
STi renamed STI (capital I) and gets new day-time running lights (DRL), lower profile hood scoop, steering wheel sensor added to improve the DCCDs response in cornering, roof-vane spoiler.
RS sedan and wagon models renamed 2.5i (like the Legacy/Outbacks) and the 2.5L horsepower is increased to 173 (from 165hp) with the addition of i-active valves.
Impreza 2.5i sedan and wagon now have 16" alloys, air filtration and either gray or beige interior.
Outback Sport continues with an optional Special Edition SE discount package with leather steering wheel and shift knob, 260 watt CD changer with subwoofer and 6 speakers, armrest, auto dimming mirror/compass and rear spoiler.

2005 models available 5/04. WRX gets new design gray 16" alloy wheels, new automatic climate control with air filtration, smoked headlight lens, new door panel armrests with power mirror controls, body colored lower trim replaces black, upgraded speakers, silver face 6 CD changer, re-designed keyless remote fob, new center console with 2 cupholders, new colors.
STi gets Helical Front differential, .5" wider rear wheels, rear wheel well arch fender flares, Yaw sensors, AM/FM/CD changer, Immobilizer key, new remote entry fob, new automatic climate control knobs, new door armrests with power mirror controls, new center console with 2 cupholders.
2004 The 04 WRX available 5/03, with minor re-design. New optional Premium Sedan Package with new for USA Impreza All Weather Package, Sunroof and spoiler. The WRX STi model available in June/July. August 7, 2008  Subaru Canada introduced the 2009 Impreza WRX There will be the WRX and the the new high-performance WRX265 with a more powerful turbo engine and a host of features similar to the US model No automastic will be available. The 2009 Impreza lineup arrives in September. Both Impreza WRX models are available in 4- and 5-door configurations, but the new WRX265 is an even more athletic driving machine with features that include: 265 horsepower and 244 lb-ft of torque, new power tilting and sliding glass moonroof, Performance-tuned suspension, 17" aluminum-alloy wheels with Dunlop SP SPORT all season tires. Premium audio system, including Sirius Satellite Radio and a 3-month trial subscription, Tilting/telescoping steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control switches, Gun metal aluminum-alloy sport pedals.  All WRXs is extremely well equipped with features that enhance its performance personality. These include air conditioning with automatic climate control and air filtration; tilting and telescoping steering wheel with integrated cruise control; heated, rally-type front seats; 17-inch alloy wheels; multi-reflector halogen fog lights; power-adjustable, folding, heated side mirrors; engine immobilizer and anti-theft security system; disc brakes at all four corners (ventilated in front, solid in rear); and Subaru's Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) and Traction Control systems. Standard sound system on the WRX is a 4-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA stereo with Radio Data System, vehicle speed sensitive volume and auxiliary audio input jack. The WRX265 is further enhanced with a premium audio system with four upgraded speakers, two tweeters, and SRS CS-Auto audio enhancement. The 2009 Impreza WRX is powered by Subaru's 2.5-litre DOHC, 16-valve, 4-cylinder Subaru BOXER that's turbocharged and intercooled to produce 224 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 226 lb-ft of torque at just 2,800 rpm.  The new WRX265 is equipped with a 2.5-litre DOHC, 16-valve, 4-cylinder Subaru BOXER with a high-pressure turbocharger and intercooler. This engine develops 265 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 244 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Both of these muscular powerplants are harnessed to a 5-speed manual transmission.  The WRX also uses a new shot-peen open-type rear differential. The shot peening process better prepares the differential for the added load, stress and performance expected from this model. The internal differential assembly (crown, pinion gears) is sandblasted with fine metal granules, producing a smoother, harder surface that is stronger and cleaner for improved drivability and durability with reduced gear noise.

New Car 1000 mile break-in period- keep RPMs under 4000, vary speeds, avoid hard starts/stops, warm up and cool down engine 1st oil change all models recommended at 3 mos or 3750 miles whichever comes first. Required on turbos. 2.5L required at 7,500 miles or 7 mos. Oil change: every 3,750 miles (because of the turbo) Tire rotation 7,500 miles 15,000 miles - minor service, inspection, air and other filter changes as necessary. 30,000 mile service with major fluids, spark plugs, (WRX 60,000) and filters change 60,000 miles (WRX spark plugs) - repeat 30,000 service 105,000 miles replace timing belt.

Summer tire and what it means tires designed for warmer temperatures and high stress use and are not good in inclement weather. The rubber compound does not maintain elasticity in cold weather. This means the grip level of the tire is less in cold temperatures even on dry pavement. In the cold a summer tire becomes unpredictable and feels slippery when cornering no matter what the weather. This problem is compounded in wet or snowy conditions.
