'In addition to the new SI-Drive, the 2007 spec.B also gets a modified version of the six-speed manual transmission from the Impreza WRX STI, a limited-slip rear differential, vehicle dynamics control and a tire-pressure monitoring system.  The SI-Drive system will be standard on all Legacy 2.5 GT Limited and Outback 2.5 XT Limited models for 2007. The system allows the driver to maximize engine performance, control and efficiency by choosing among three selectable modes — intelligent, sport and sport sharp — using a rotary dial on the center console. The SI-Drive controls the electronic throttle system's response and fuel and ignition curves to modify engine torque characteristics. With intelligent mode, the system reduces engine torque and maximum power. This mode can boost fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent, the company says. In sport mode, the performance is characterized by quick throttle responses and linear acceleration. In sport sharp mode, power is delivered sooner, with a quick throttle response. The system includes an instrument panel display that allows the driver to monitor performance. more from Edmunds.com
