Legacy, Outback, certain 2005 and early 2006 models
Rear Wheel Bearings may, over time, develop a noise condition that causes the bearing to produce a whining sound Subaru. has initiated an Extended Warranty Program for Rear Wheel Bearings on certain 2005 and early 2006 model year Legacy and Outback models. Coverage will be extended to 8 years or 100,000 miles.
During a quality review, Subaru discovered that there is a possibility that one or both of an affected vehicle's Rear Wheel Bearings may, over time, develop a noise condition that causes the bearing to produce a whining sound.  This sound does not pose a safety issue and does not adversely affect the normal operation of the bearing.  However, if the vehicle experiences this condition, it should be corrected by replacing the affected bearing, which will eliminate the sound.  As a result of this finding and in the interest of customer satisfaction, SOA is extending the Rear Wheel Bearing warranty coverage period for the affected vehicles to 8 years (96 months) or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

4/2008 2002, 2003 Impreza wagons loose rear gate stay stud bolts and welded nuts SoA has initiated a voluntary Safety Recall to inspect and possibly perform repairs to the rear gate stay stud bolts and welded nuts on approximately 36,791 2002 and 2003 Impreza wagons. Campaign #WVD-14. Affected vehicles may have been manufactured with tailgate stays (also known as tailgate struts) that were inadequately tightened during production. The left and right tailgate stays are designed to support the tailgate when it is placed in an upright position. Each is connected to the tailgate by means of a stud bolt that is attached directly to a welded nut located within the tailgate. If one or both of the stud bolts were inadequately tightened, the loose stud bolt may put unintended stress at the area around the welded nut. Over time and after repeated tailgate operation (opening and closing), this condition could result in the welded nut, along with the tailgate stay, separating and detaching from the tailgate causing the tailgate to close unexpectedly. Owners will be notified
3/2007 2006 Forester and Impreza front seat wiring harness may have been pinched SoA has initiated a voluntary Safety Recall to inspect and possibly repair the passenger front seat wiring on approximately 7,000 2006 Forester and Impreza models.
Affected vehicles may have been produced with an improperly routed electrical wiring harness. The harness may have been pinched against the passenger front seat mounting bolt during production. On or around March 9, 2007, owner notification letters will be mailed. Campaign code WVC-13 has been assigned to this Safety Recall.
1/30/2007 2006-2007 Tribeca 06-07 Tribeca Second Row Seatback Hinge Service Program SoA has initiated a voluntary Service Program to inspect and possibly replace the left and right second row seatback hinges/frames on approximately 6,000 2006-2007MY B9 Tribeca vehicles. Campaign code WVA-11 has been assigned to this Service Program. Vehicles affected by this Service Program may have been produced with a left and/or right second row
seatback hinge mechanism that may not have been heat treated during production. Owner notification letters will be mailed on or around February 9, 2007.
8/2006 2006 Tribeca weak rear gate supports Some 06s may have weak rear gate supports that don't hold the rear gate open. If you have this problem, contact your local dealer for inspection.
5/2006  2005, 2006 Legacy and Outback service bulletin re Elapsed time function in the clock doesn't work prperly The trip computer's ET (elapsed time) setting works when the ignition key is briefly paused at the 'on' setting and may not work if the key is turned too quickly.  A repair bulletin  #08-37-06
8/22/05 2002, 2003 WRX, manual transmission ABS brake performance ecu Satisfaction program 06-35-05R. this is not a recall.
A response to concerns about ABS performance on 2002-03 WRX 5spd of a feeling of a delayed response when ABS is activated during inital braking over bumps, potholes or other low friction road surfaces. With assistance from Subaru, NHTSA conducted over 11,500 tests to investigate this report and while NHTSA and Subaru did not indentify a problem that would require a recall, they did identify a certain ABS performance characteristic that might cause some driver's to identify a delayed response feel during the first second of braking. Following this analysis, Subaru developed an alternative method of calibrating the ABS to address this performance characteristic. No perceptible improvement in overall stopping difference will result. If the driver of an affected vehicle encounters this set of conditions and is uncomfortable, a complimentary ABS with different calibration is available.
This is not mandatory, rather this service is being offered to enhance customer satisfation. Only some owners will experience this ABS characteristic and SoA will contact owners of eligible vehicles by mail through October 2005.
4/2005 all models bulletin re best type of radiator coolant to use Subaru radiator coolant is a phosphate, non-anime kind made for aluminum radiators and engines and is the only type that should be used.
3/2004 2005 6cylinder Outback reprogram transmission control With the new Sportshift automatic transmission, when in manual model it's possible for the driver to forget or fail to upshift and thus over-rev the car for a long time possibly causing engine oil overheating issues. The fix is reprogramming the transmission control module to automatically upshift.
8/04 certain 2002 – 2003 Imprezas left front bolt holding the front of the driver’s seat to the seat rail might come loose. Replace the bolt which may loosen over time and possibly fall out in an accident allowing the the seat to separate from the slide.
7/2004 2004-2005 Baja turbo vehicle emission information tag may be incorrect The emission sticker under the hood might not have correct information. New stickers will be supplied
6/2004 2005 Legacy sedans and Outback 3.0R sedan replacement of side impact airbags Some of the very first 2005 Legacy and Outback sedans (no wagons) produced before June 04 may have side curtain airbags that might not deploy fast enough, and the airbags will be replaced.
3/10/2004 2001-2004 H6 Outback, 2002-2004 WRX cruise control cable mislocation all 2001 thru 2004 H-6 Legacy Outbacks and 2002 through 2004 WRX. There is cruise control cable that could prevent the throttle from closing. The simple repair involves putting on a small clip to prevent it from coming off.
2/6/04 1999-02 Phase2 2.5L engines, Legacy, Outback, Forester possible external coolant leak at the cylinder head gaskets Certain 1999 through 2002 2.5L equipped vehicles may experience an external coolant leak at the head gaskets. As a precautionary measure, SOA is adding a special conditioner to the engine cooling system. This conditioner prevents leaks from occurring and corrects existing leaks.
Only early Phase II 2.5 liter engines are affected. Phase I 2.5 liter engines (some 1999 model year and prior years) are not affected. Countermeasures applied to the manufacturing process for those 2002 and later VINS not affected by this campaign have eliminated the need for this campaign to be performed on those vehicles.
In the future, it will be necessary to add Genuine Subaru Cooling System Conditioner to the SUBARU vehicle cooling system whenever the engine coolant is replaced.
If the vehicle owner has this repair performed promptly, Subaru will extend warranty coverage on cylinder head gasket external coolant leaks to a period of 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Warranty coverage begins on the date the vehicle was delivered to the first retail purchaser or on the date the vehicle was first placed in demo or rental service. The owner must have Genuine Subaru Cooling System Conditioner added to the vehicle at any subsequent cooling system services at the interval specified in the Warranty and Maintenance Booklet under the heading “Schedule of Inspection and Maintenance Services”. Resulting damage caused by a lack of maintenance or low coolant level will not be covered.
11/18/03 Impreza Warranty vehicle modifications, racing or abusive driving habits. This bulletin reinforces Subaru of America’s (SOA) position regarding repairs to Subaru vehicles necessitated by vehicle modifications, racing or abusive driving habits. Under normal driving conditions SOA warrants wear items such as clutch discs and brake pads under the terms of the Basic New Car Warranty. If a clutch disc or a brake pad needs to be replaced at low mileage, the dealership must satisfy itself that the replacement is not the
result of one of the exclusions listed. See image below.
