1/5/13 recall Optional puddle lights (small outside lights under each door that illuminate the ground) may short circuit when exposed to saltwater, which could lead to overheating and possible fire. Models involved have the optional puddle lights and are the 2010 and 2011 Legacy and Outback, 2009-2012 Foresters sold before January 2012, and 2006-2012 Tribecas sold before January 2012. Reportedly around 54000 car in the US could be involved. According to online reports, the problem has been known for years with various fixes failing to solve it. The latest repair will be new wiring with a fuse. Recall #WQE-41

10/23/12 Navigation system updating information released
"Please note: updates to 2012 model year Impreza and Forester vehicle navigation systems are now available from Nokia via the following link: www.navigation.com/subaru-na
Although ’12 systems are the first to go live on this new update system, additional carlines and newer model years will soon be available for updates as well. Customers interested in updating their navigation systems can do so through the following process:
1. With vehicle on, eject SD Card (see pg. 18 in Navigation System Owner’s Manual for SD card ejection procedure)
2. Insert SD card into computer SD card reader
3. Open web link: www.navigation.com/subaru-na
4. Click “ Buy Updates or Extras”
5. Register a user ID and password
6. Select head unit (currently only 12MY Impreza and Forester head unit available)
7. Select update for purchase
8. Download Naviextras Toolbox to computer
9. Use Naviextras Toolbox to download update to SD card
10. Replace SD card in vehicle navigation head unit with vehicle off
11. Turn on vehicle to confirm update

4/3/12- PZEV goes national and all 2012 Forester allocated after 4/1/12 will have PZEV emissions.

3/30 final day for 2012 factory orders for all Outback, Legacy, Forester, and Tribeca models. 2012 orders for Forester, Tribeca, Outback and Legacy end at 3pm today 3/30. This is early for Foresters, perhaps the 2013 model will get some updates (CVT?)  in advance of the 2014 make-over. Outback and Legacy manual transmission and 3.6L models had already stopped on 3/6. Dealers will continue to receive 2012s but in diminishing numbers. Low production models will sell out quickly. Subaru already announced 2013 Outback and Legacy details yesterday.

The Subaru Forester is an all-wheel-drive car-based SUV introduced in 1998. Made by Fuji Heavy Industries in Ota Gumma, Japan.
Redesigned in 2009, this is the 4th year for the current model.
 

When? 2012s expected to start arriving late October

The 2012 get very a few changes, basically they are the same as 2011.
Sorry, the engine and transmission is the same 2.5L and 4 speed Sportshift used in the 2011s.
There is no CVT and no diesel (I don't think there will ever be a US diesel).

Whats new-

New the 1st oil/filter change is by 7500 miles or 7.5  months. This is new. the 2011 model 1st oil/filter change was by 3mos/3000 miles.

New The front passenger seat is now manually height adjustable which is really good because the seat was a bit low. This is a first for any Subaru.
New The cargo area carpet been changed to black, regardless of interior color the rear cargo area carpet is back.
New A new touch screen Navigation/GPS with HD radio and single CD is optional on Limited and Touring models.
Gone: Satellite radio no longer standard on Touring models
 

Colors and Interior
New - Ice Silver Metallic with off-black interior replaces the two silvers (so confusing) that were available in 2009-2011.
Gone - Steel Silver, Spark Silver, Paprika Red Pearl

Maybe Next Year- Top things it would be nice to see for 2013 models

Keep the rubber rear bumper cover- don't switch to the new clear mylar/vinyl one like on other models
Tires pressure monitors that self-register so a technician isn't required each time one swaps wheels/tires.
Better fuel economy with a CVT transmission or diesel engine, or both.
memory driver's seat on top of the line models
XT turbo with upgraded suspension, brakes, wheels/tires to handle the power
Rain sensing front wipers
A foul weather, camping, skier version with vinyl floor and cargo area, real mudflaps, etc
One piece key/remote to replace old fashioned separate pieces
when they redesign it, I hope the keep the excellent rear visibility
All Weather Package should include the all weather floor mats and rear cargo tray

there's lot of room, and its only  27" high so very easy lift things in.	golf clubs and strollers fit easily. And who's that looking back at the camera?

2012 MAINTENANCE full 2012 maintenance schedule and service intervals in this early maintenance schedule, the 2.5L Forester N/A (North America) 1st oil/filter change at 3mo/3000 miles. In later booklets, its 7500 miles or 7.5 months.

-- the full maintenance schedule 2.5L models- 0w-20 synthetic oil  Turbo models- 5w-30 synthetic oil 2.5 X models Synthetic 0w-20 oil only. 1st oil and all subsequent oil change required at or by  7500 miles or 7.5 months. This is new. 2011 models required it by 3mos/3000 miles. Note: early owner manual maintenance schedules printed 8/11 had the 1st oil/filter change required  3 months or 3,000 miles like the 2011 models, but that changed in the schedule printed October 2011.  2.5L XT turbo models   Synthetic 5w-30 oil only. 1st oil change required at or by 7500 miles or 7.5 months.  2nd and Subsequent oil changes: required every 7500 miles or 7.5 months. Note: this is the minimum oil change interval required. It is generally recommended by many in the automotive industry to change the oil every 3750 miles or 3.75 mos, and under race or other severe driving, even more frequently. Tire rotations: every 6-10,000 miles. Equal tread required at all corners. The ‘HD’ in ‘HD Radio’ is part of iBiquity Digital’s brand name for its digital AM and FM radio technology.
It does not mean either hybrid digital or high definition, it is simply the branding language for this new technology.
HD Radio broadcasting is free, there are no subscription fees.
You can get digital AM and FM stations, including HD2 and HD3 multicast channels.
HD Radio broadcasting is your favorite local AM and FM stations broadcasting digitally, producing radically improved sound.

HD2 multicasting means more FM channels and new programming available from local FM stations, which you can only hear on your new HD Radio receiver.
Across the country, local FM stations are offering a wide variety of new formats on their HD2 channels: reggae, blues, classic jazz, future country, new alternative, deep tracks, bluegrass and local artists.
The service includes iTunes Tagging. iTunes Tagging lets you capture information about a song on the radio and store it on your iPod by pushing the "Tag" button on the HD Radio receiver. When your iPod is connected to iTunes, a list of tagged songs will appear which can be previewed, purchased, and downloaded.
