10/5/17 new accessory Wheel Arch Moldings are now available. These don't show as factory installed option and I'm not sure how long they've been listed as an accessory, but dealers can install them on 2016, 2017, and 2018 Foresters. Its part # E201SSG000

6/21/17 2018 Forester finance rates announced
2.90% x 24-36-48-60-63-72 months.
There are still a lot of 2017s available so this is a good time to get one plus there's 0%x 48mo and .90%x60mo available through June 30th here in the NW, on approval of credit. New rates for July will be announced after that and given its clearance time, there's no reason to expect the 17 rates to change and one might have even thought the 0% would have already been extended for 60 months for June to help clear the inventory.
In the meantime, 0% and .90% are great rates on the 17s.
And the 18s rates will come down (hopefully soon) as the 17s sell out.

6/12/17 2018 Forester Premium Option Package #16 "Black Edition" is now available to order
Premium with Option Package #16 $1,150 MSRP gets you...
Steering Responsive LED headlights, Paddle shifters, Fog Lights, 18" black alloy wheels, black cloth with leatherette trim (like the Forester 2.0XT Premium), black leather wrapped steering wheels, and black interior and exterior trim etc.
Its called the Black Edition but is available in Black, Dark Gray, Silver, and Crystal White exterior colors.
The big reasons to get this package are the steering responsive LED headlights for much improved night driving, and the Paddle Shifters.
The Paddle Shifters are all new and long overdue on the 2.5 model until now (they are on the XTs of course). They give the driver the ability to use the 4 cylinder engine to its best capacity when power is needed for passing, accelerating on freeways, towing, driving in snow etc etc.
Unfortunately the Black Edition package does not include standard Blind Spot Detection and rear cross traffic alert or eyesight but otherwise this is a nice package and adds something new to the 18s (which are the same as the 17s).
The Forester Premium is a little behind the safety curve. Blind spot detection should really be standard on all Premiums but its not...its only available as part of Premium Option Packages #14 and #15 with Eyesight.

5/18/17 2018 orders now available.
Just 2 days ago, on 5/16 Subaru announced 2018 Forester orders would open on 5/22, but viola, today we have prices, options and can order.
Orders place now would have a July ETA

Very few changes for the 18s.
No Android Auto or Apple Carplay is available. Sorry,
Subaru Starlink app now on the 2.5i (base models), and includes new cloud apps such as magellan navigation

Black Edition... The big news is the 2.5i Premium CVT Package #16 Black Edition gets Paddle shifters which is a huge improvement! It gives the driver full transmission control for improved safety and performance getting on the highway, passing on 2 lane roads, towing a small trailer, improved snow driving and downhill control. This is long overdue and is the first Forester 2.5L CVT with paddles shifters. The 2.0XT CVT models have always had paddle shifters.
The Black edition also gets steering responsive LED headlights, fog lights, 18" black alloys, black cloth with leatherette bolsters, black leather steering wheel with silver stitching, gloss black CVT shift knob, black exterior trim (logos, outside mirrors, fog light trim etc), single stainless exhaust tip, cargo tray

Limited models get a standard cargo cover
Touring models get standard Eyesight and Navigation

Models and prices expected in May

4/17/17 2017 Forester orders close 4/27 11pm, for June delivery
2018 orders will open "mid-April" for July delivery and we'll have some information on the 2018s at that time.
Not all 2017 models will be available to order, it will depend on how many are ordered.
Note- today is 4/17 which is mid-April so we should be more information soon.

Important note.... if you have a new Forester Premium, Limited or Touring and a cell phone with Mirrorlink (Samsung Notes and Ss, HTCs, Sony Xperia), it is likely to completely freeze when you plug it into the car's USB.
Mirrorlink is a European app that doesn't really do anything in the US but is included on Outback Premium, Limited and Touring models and there is no way to delete or even disable it on the car.
Its mostly Samsung Notes and S phones, HTC, and Sony Xperias that have Mirrorlink coded in, and can't be turned off or deleted.
Plugging it in results in a black phone screen (Note 4) and if there is a work-around, I don't know about it.

Steering Responsive Headlights standard on all Tourings, included on the Limited with optional Eyesight, Standard on Premium 2.5 CVT with option Pkg #16 and #17.
When the headlights are on and the car is going faster than 5mph, the headlights will move slightly (app 5*) when the steering wheel is turned to help illuminate into the turn or the corner.

Note: Steering Responsive Fog Lights (Premium model only, requires optional Eyesight) when the headlights are on and the fog lights are off, and the steering wheel is turned the fog light on that side turns on to illuminate into the turn or the corner.

Lane Keep Assist. Lane Keep Assist uses the car's electric power steering to help keep the car in its lane at highway speeds (over 40mph).
Note: this function default is OFF and has a steering wheel switch and has to be turned on to work.

Pre-Collision Braking can recognize an impending collision, alert the driver and even automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a collision or minimize the impact when a collision is inevitable.
The EyeSight cameras and electronic control units analyze objects on the road ahead, measure the distance to the object and compare the object’s speed to the EyeSight vehicle’s speed. Only once EyeSight has locked onto an object on the road ahead, if the system recognizes a potential collision, will Pre-Collision Braking activate.
There are three stages of operation that may occur in rapid succession:
Initial Warning – The Multi-Function Display in the top center of the instrument panel will show an image of a white vehicle icon representing the vehicle that has been detected and a warning display, and a series of short beeps will sound. These warnings tell the driver to take action. No braking or other vehicle control functions are activated in this first stage
First Braking Application – If there is no driver intervention – such as steering around the obstacle or braking – Pre-Collision Braking will immediately and automatically apply the brakes. (Note that whenever the brakes are applied, the brake lights illuminate.) If this braking is not sufficient, the audible alert and instrument panel displays will continue to issue warnings
Second Braking Application – If there is still no driver intervention, the brakes are immediately and automatically applied harder, and the system will issue a continuous warning sound. The driver can still take action to avoid a collision, but EyeSight is now warning that a collision is imminent

Pre-Collision Brake Assist. If EyeSight® recognizes an impending collision and the driver is applying the brakes but not with enough force, Pre-Collision Brake Assist automatically applies up to full braking pressure in order to try to shorten braking distances.
Note- this feature does not replace Brake Assist, which is standard on all Subaru models, but rather enhances Brake Assist by adding an extra level of information to determine when to apply full braking. These features are helpful because in emergency braking situations, many drivers simply do not apply full braking pressure.
If a vehicle has been detected, the multi-function display in the top center of the instrument panel will show an image of a white vehicle icon, a warning displays and a series of short beeps will sound. When the driver applies the brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle or object ahead, EyeSight continues to measure the closing distance, vehicle speed and brake application. If EyeSight determines that sufficient braking pressure has not been applied to avoid impact with the vehicle ahead, it will provide full braking pressure. After the vehicle has stopped, a ready light flashes and audible beeping warning occurs. At that point, the driver must apply the brake to remain stopped.
If EyeSight determines that evasive actions have been taken, based on information from a steering angle sensor and other input, Pre-Collision Brake Assist will be cancelled

Pre-Collision Throttle Management helps prevent drivers from accelerating into a stopped vehicle or other obstacle in front of them. It warns the driver and reduces engine power until he or she applies the brakes to avoid an impact.
EyeSight® analyzes the object ahead, and measures the distance to the object as well as vehicle speed and throttle position. If it determines that the throttle opening will result in an impact, Pre-Collision Throttle Management:
Displays a warning on the instrument panel, sounds a repeated series of short beeps and can significantly restrict the throttle so that vehicle acceleration will be reduced

Lane Departure and Lane Sway Warning
Lane Departure alerts drivers when they unintentionally move out of their travel lane. It takes no corrective vehicle action other than issuing visual and audible warnings. Lane Sway Warning acts in a similar way, detecting unusual back and forth vehicle movement within the lane of travel. That movement can be indicative of a drowsy driver.
EyeSight® analyzes the lane markings on the road ahead, including the road’s centerline and shoulder markings. If it determines that the driver is deviating from the normal lane of travel, it displays a warning on the instrument panel and issues six short beeps as an alert. This feature relies on EyeSight’s recognition software as well as input from the brakes, steering and throttle sensors, and the turn signals (when turn signals are used, Eyesight assumes you're crossing lanes on purpose etc).
Lane Departure Warning and Lane Sway Warning only operate at speeds over 32 mph.
Lane Departure and Lane Sway do not work when the turn signal is used and for a brief time afterward the steering wheel is turned significantly, the brake pedal is depressed, or the accelerator is fully depressed. Because Lane Departure and Lane Sway Warning rely on EyeSight’s ability to recognize lane markings and road shoulders, this function may not operate when there are no lane markings or they are very worn, the lane markings are a similar color as the road surface, there is very little contrast between the road surface and the shoulder
Lane Departure and Lane Sway Warning should be turned off in situations where EyeSight might become confused by road markings, such as tire tracks on a wet or snow-covered road, repaired road surfaces with significant contrast between the repair and the original pavement, harsh shadows on the road from guard rails, or bright transitions in road surfaces, such as when leaving a tunnel

Adaptive Cruise Control combines the benefits of cruise control with active monitoring of the road ahead by EyeSight, and it issues warnings and activates automatic braking when needed.
Adaptive Cruise Control can regulate vehicle speed in order to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. It does not replace conventional cruise control, which can still be used when desired.
EyeSight’s cameras and object-recognition software measure the distance to the lead vehicle and the speed difference between vehicles and can slow the EyeSight vehicle to keep a safe gap in travel. If a slower lead vehicle moves out of the lane ahead or exits, the system automatically accelerates back up to its set speed. In other words, it tracks vehicles in your travel lane and automatically maintains a gap between you. It can even bring the EyeSight vehicle to a complete stop if the lead vehicle comes to a stop, such as during a sudden traffic jam.
However, the Forester EyeSight system does not have a “stay stopped” feature as found in Legacy and Outback models. This is because Forester does not have an electronic parking brake. The Forester driver is responsible for keeping the vehicle stopped in this situation.

Lead Vehicle Start Alert alerts the driver when his or her vehicle remains stopped after a vehicle in front has started to move away.

Forester Eyesight Details
The twin video cameras’ field of view is 25 degrees horizontally from the center of the windshield. Unlike human vision, EyeSight has no peripheral vision
The twin video cameras’ field of vision extends up to 260 feet in front of the vehicle, but objects very close to the vehicle may not be detected
EyeSight works to recognize obstacles within a 19 mph (or less) speed differential. Essentially, EyeSight needs time to recognize an object or potential obstacle. If the speed difference between the EyeSight vehicle and the object is greater than 19 mph, the object will likely not be detected
Sun glare, foul weather, a dirty windshield or even a thin coating of frost or ice will hinder or even cancel EyeSight operation. If you’re having a hard time seeing out of the windshield, so will EyeSight
A cracked windshield, oil film on the glass or reflections may impede the performance of EyeSight
EyeSight may not recognize low-contrast objects, those with regularly spaced patterns or horizontal lines, backlit objects, very small objects (less than 3 feet tall) or complex-shaped vehicles, such as cement mixers or car-carrier trucks
EyeSight becomes operational about 7 seconds after the engine is started
There is a time delay of several seconds between when an object enters the field of view of EyeSight, when the software recognizes it and when an alert or action is initiated
Non-approved vehicle accessories, such as hood protectors, and water-repellent glass coatings should not be used with EyeSight-equipped vehicles, since they may hinder its operation

Notes-
Eyesight uses two forward facing cameras to see the road ahead, and only works when they can 'see'. Don't block the camera's views, put anything reflective on the dash, hang anything from the rear view mirror, or clean the dash so that it's shiny. Replace the windshield wipers as necessary. The Eyesight cameras will turn off if the windshield fogs up of they can't see for any reason.
do not touch or try to clean the EyeSight camera lenses. It is imperative that extra precaution be used when cleaning the inside of the windshield, because over-spray from cleaners may impair or even damage the cameras’ lenses, which is not a warranty issue.

X-Mode with Hill Descent Control	standard on 2.5i Premium CVT, 2.5i Limited, 2.5 Touring, 2.0XT Premium and XT Touring X-mode has to be activated under 12mph, and cuts off over 25mph. X-mode is a low speed down-hill control system activated by the driver. It's a computerized management system that controls the engine, CVT transmission, AWD system, brakes, and VDC to help maintain control on slippery surfaces or steep hills. Its combined with hill descent, and only works at low speeds. Hill descent control is activated with X-mode and uses VDC engine throttle management and brakes to help maintain vehicle speed when going downhill at low speed. When activated, the system will maintain the speed it was set at.

It comes wired with a 4pin connector (10amp fuse) for tail or brake lights (max 5.6 amps) Towing over 1000 pounds, it is recommended (and smart) to have electric trailer brakes on the trailer or boat. note; the 2.5i CVT models have D drive and L low mode and don't allow the driver to control the transmission (there are no paddle shifters except on the Premium Black Edition) which means it is not a good vehicle to tow anything with. towing the Forester: manual transmissions can be flat towed with all wheels on the ground behind a motorhome.
