Hi, I'd like to share these pics of my recent front axle replacements on my '00obw and '96 legacy. Both were front right inner cv joint boot tears just above the front cat. Not a big deal really, but make sure you get a Subaru OEM reman or new axle, or an MWE. Stay away from napa; these have been especially bad as of late.

Note Subaru does not recommend using an impact wrench to remove or install the axle nut. I used an impact on my '00obw, made the job very easy.

On my '96, I tried it without the impact, couldn't budge it with a 3/4 breaker bar
