This happens on a lot cars. Replacing or repairing a damaged bumper cover costs a lot less than repairing a metal fender or quarter panel.
And a bumper cover weighs less which helps fuel economy.
Those are both big advantages.

But the bumper cover could have some internal reinforcing to minimize this type of damage.

I've remedied this issue on a few Outbacks I've bought over the years . . . . .

Take something like a football (or similar ball) and flatten it. Stick the flattened ball behind the bumper cover corner dent and slowley blow the ball up. In no time, your dent will "POP" back out. If you do it carefully, and while it's hot out, you may get away with zero damage, spidering, or paint/clearcoat chipping. I have!

Good luck!

That's interesting observations on the bumper corner damage.

I like the pictures you have of the older cars that had the nice chrome bumpers. Sometimes comedians do bits about that like "it used to be if you ran into a telephone poll, you just backed up and were on your way. Not any more. Now we have collapsing bumpers and 'crumple zones'."

The trick with using a football or other inflatable item is a great idea, thanks for sharing it!
